Premier Expertise in Air and Missile Defence

THREATS FROM ABOVE

COM CC SBAMD visited the 2015 Royal Society of Engineers Symposium and Exhibition in Amsterdam, 29 th of April.  The topic was: THREATS FROM ABOVE. The program covered an overview of developments on international security and cooperation, policy and vision, future capabilities and technological development in The Netherlands. Of special interests were the US perspective on BMD capabilities and challenges in Europe and Medium Threats, the Kaliningrad case (unclassified).

Two presentations from the Dutch Ground Based Air Defence Command showed the current and future challenges with regards to air & missile threats.

Of special note was a presentation on short range remotely controlled objects, like (commercial) small drones, which might become a threat. New technical developments against these low-observable and small slow threats seemed to be in the low cost/low tech area.  This looks promising, as the collateral damage can be kept to a minimum, the systems are easy to operate and may be in use by all law-enforcement, security and military agencies.
